Why should I go back to school? — Education grants us access to a new world of possibilities. We become equipped with critical thinking skills, we enhance our perspectives and create connections between our lives and the lives of others around the world. We learn where we come from, who we can be, who we’d like to be, who we’d like to help, and how we can help ourselves. Education endows us with confidence, curiosity, security, complexity of thought, and joie de vivre. In more tangible terms, an education also increases our standard of living. Candidates with higher educations have a more diverse array of jobs available, incur higher salaries, gain a competitive edge in the job market, demonstrate commitment and passion, and secure a more financially stable future. Research indicates that higher levels of education correlate positively with higher incomes, health and wellness, job security, and happiness.
Isn’t my 10th standard certificate enough? — A 10th standard certificate is valuable documentation for advancing an academic path, but it’s not an end goal. It’s a place to jump from–a foundation to build on. The 10th standard teaches introductory concepts, but does not deeply delve into critical thinking, problem solving, creative brainstorming, or other pertinent skills for advancing your own education. Standardized learning doesn’t work for everyone and often leaves big gaps in what we know, how we learn to seek answers, and how we ask questions. Our Academy will bolster the skills that begin developing in the 10th standard–with a robust, innovative, and individualized learning plan–and take the academic journey outside the box, where learners of all sorts can excel.
Will any of my previous schooling count? — Before Academy classes begin, we conduct individual assessments of each student’s capabilities. In this regard, yes, your studies will inform the personal education track that our teacher creates for you.
Are there any prerequisites to enroll in the Academy? — Absolutely not. We welcome students with any educational background, from several years of formal schooling to no schooling at all.
How much does tuition cost? Does iSaahasi offer any financial aid programs? — Tuition is determined on an individual basis, based on student income and circumstances. Scholarships are also available for those who qualify.
How much time do I need to commit to the Academy? — iSaahasi Academy runs five days a week. We meet everyday from Monday-Friday from 8:30am – 1pm. Each week, students complete approximately an hour’s worth of homework outside of classroom hours as well.
Will I be able to maintain my duties at home and to my current job while studying at iSaahasi? — Most of our students are employed and/or have household obligations to maintain. At first, there was a transition period for most students, while they figured out how to balance school with their other duties, but most students have successfully developed a schedule that allows them to incorporate school without compromising time spent elsewhere.
What should I expect of iSaahasi staff and teachers? — As a student at iSaahasi, you should expect our staff to be professional, engaged, and passionate. You should expect a peaceful, respectful academy environment that will be conducive to working hard and concentrating. You should expect enthusiastic teachers who take your questions seriously, work with you until you understand new concepts, enliven the classroom with energetic lessons, value your education, and try many approaches to teaching. You should expect a safe place, an empowering community, and a hard working energy from iSaahasi.
What will they expect of me? — By committing to the Academy, we expect you to honour your learning process and support your classmates by working together, creating a safe and enthusiastic classroom environment, and actively participating in lessons. We expect students to come to school every day, to arrive on time and prepared with assignments for the day, and to ask questions when they need help. We expect our students to work hard, be respectful, stay focused, challenge themselves, and do their best.
What will I get out of attending iSaahasi? — Through enrolling in our program, we expect that our students will be able to pass standard exams with higher scores; become more fluent in English, Hindi, and Math; receive a certificate of completion from iSaahasi and bolster their resume; and earn vigorous critical thinking, financial literacy, and social development skills that will propel them throughout their lives.
